Shivshankar MENON was the National Security Advisor to the Prime Minister of India from January 21, 2010 to May 26, 2014. Before that Menon was Foreign Secretary of India from 2006 to 2009. He has served as Ambassador or High Commissioner to Israel, Sri Lanka, China and Pakistan. His professional experience was concentrated on India’s relations with China and the neighbours, atomic energy and disarmament, and India’s relations with the major powers. During his career Menon acquired a reputation as a fair but tough negotiator, a strong defender of India’s interests with an underplayed public persona. In 2010, he was chosen by “Foreign Policy” magazine as one of the world’s “Top 100 Global Thinkers.”
