北阁论衡 第七讲
题目:Is Japanese Nationalism on the Rise?
Commentators around the world say that “Japanese nationalism is on the rise” – a development that, if true, has significant implications for East Asian international relations. But is nationalism really rising in Japan? After all, people have been saying this for years, and commentators rarely define what they mean by the complex term, “nationalism.” This project defines this important variable and measures it systematically using cross-time and cross-country data. I find that while Japanese policy has grown more assertive over time, Japanese national identity has actually moved in a more cosmopolitan (not nationalistic) direction.
