Dr. James Peck (jlp2143@nyu.edu) is a visiting professor at New York University in the History and East Asia Departments. He was the founder and Executive Director of the Culture and Civilization of China project at Yale University and the China International Publishing Group. He was Senior Editor at Pantheon Books from 1970 to 1990.
His publications include Washington’s China: U.S. Globalism and the National Security (2004); Ideal Illusions: How the U.S. Government Co-opted Human Rights (2010); The Chomsky Reader (1984). His latest book, Misunderstanding China: Why Washington Gets It Wrong is to be published in 2017.
While at Pantheon, he conducted hundreds of hours of interviews while working for over a decade as the editor of two of the pivotal figures in US diplomatic history – J. William Fulbright and George F. Kennan.
