MIR Program Prospectus for 2013 Entry

About the MIR Program
The School of International Studies at Peking University, hereinafter referred to as SIS, announces the opening for 2013-entry applications of the Master’s Degree Program in International Relations (MIR), for international students and applicants from the Chinese areas of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao. Those who have a strong interest in international relations in general and Chinese foreign relations in particular and have obtained a solid undergraduate educational foundation are welcomed to apply.
Combining empirical and theoretical approaches, this program focuses on in-depth studies in politics, foreign affairs, and social development of contemporary China, with courses taught and theses written in English.
Experiencing a 2-year full-time academic program of MIR at the School of International Studies, a master’s degree in International Relations will be granted by Peking University upon completion of required credits, a degree thesis, and an oral defense.

Application Prerequisites
1, Only international applicants and applicants from the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan areas of China can be accepted into the MIR Program. Foreign applicants should hold valid passports issued by their countries, while applicants from the Chinese areas of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan must be permanent inhabitants.
2. Applicants should be no older than 40 years old with at least a bachelor’s degree or above from an institution of recognized standing.
3. Applicants from countries and regions where English is not the official language, or who did not receive their bachelor’s degree from an English speaking university, are required to provide valid English test certificates - IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL 107(ibt).

2. A personal CV/resume A personal statement (1000 words)
3. Graduation certificate and degree diploma, must be original or certified copies either in Chinese or English (Students expected to graduate should provide an official letter stating their expected graduation date)
4. Official transcripts, original or certified copies either in Chinese or English
5. Two letters of academic reference
6. English language proficiency certificate, IELTS 7.0, or TOEFL 107 (ibt)
7. If applicable: Table of contents and abstracts of your academic publications and any other original work in your field
8. One personal passport size photo and one digital photo
9. One photocopy of all the application documents
Submitted materials will not be returned.
Submission
Applicants should send the documents to International Programs Officer Ms. Cui Ling by mail and email via the contact information below. An unrefundable application fee of RMB 400 Yuan is charged online with application form. No application will be processed without the application fee.
Deadline
Applications accepted from November 1st,2012 to 31st March,2013.
Admission
Admission decisions will be sent to applicants via email by the end of May, 2013. And the offers will be sent to admitted applicants by both mail and email in July, 2013.

Tuition Fee
RMB 75,000 Yuan a year at Peking University
Degree
Certified by the Degree Committee of Peking University, a Master’s Degree in International Relations will be granted upon completion of required credits, a Master’s thesis and an oral defense.
