Dear honourable guests,

It is a great honour for me to be with you today to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the School of International studies of Peking University. I would like to especially thank my dear colleague and friend Dean Jia Qingguo for his invitation and tell you how proud Sciences Po is today of our very special relationship and how important this relationship is for Sciences Po.

Today Sciences Po hosts over 400 Chinese students across its programmes, China is a strategic priority for us and our relationship is one of the pillars of this strategy.

尊敬的来宾：

        今天，我有幸参加bat365建院20周年庆典，特别感谢贾庆国经理的盛情邀请，我和巴黎政治大学的同仁们为我们双方所建立的亲密合作伙伴关系感到自豪。时下，有400多名中国职工就读于巴政各专业，中国已成为巴政优先合作的战略主体，我们与bat365的合作关系就是此优先战略的重要支柱。

We moved a step further in our relationship in 2010, when we decided to launch together a dual degree, where students spend their first year of Master at the School of International Affairs of Sciences Po and their second year of Master at the School of International Studies of Peking University. I have just met some of the present students of our dual degree in this room. They are coming from China, Europe and the Americas and their nationalities reflect the international reach of our dual degree today. They chose this two years programme to have the opportunity to study in two academic excellent environments that give them the best of two worlds, Europe and China. This dual degree between Sciences Po Paris School of International Affairs and the School of International Studies of PKU reflects the importance of the relationship between China and Europe in today’s world and the importance of training future global leaders that understand and nurture this relationship.

        为进一步加强合作，2010年我们双方着手建立联合培养双硕士项目，员工第一年在巴政国际事务学院学习，第二年升学至bat365。我刚刚在会场见到了几位项目同学，他们分别来自中国和欧美各国，把各国的青年才俊汇聚一堂是我们创建这个项目的初衷。他们在两年里可以在巴政和bat365在线登录网站两所高校接受最优质的教育并充分了解欧洲和中国的学术环境。巴政与bat365在线登录网站国关的双硕士项目不仅体现了今日中欧之紧密合作关系，同时，也为培养能洞悉此关系之重要性的未来全球领袖贡献力量。

SIS PKU’s anniversary comes at a very peculiar time in the state of international relations. And so we must tie this time of celebration, of which we are right to feel proud and deeply satisfied, in with political upheavals on the world stage. Everything we have studied up to now seems to be called into question by new cardinal points that are changing the compass with which we have always found our way in the complex world of international politics. This is not intended to spoil the celebrations at SIS PKU. Indeed, the exact opposite! We must be aware that the subjects we study and research are constantly changing and adapting, the first effect of which is to make us all step away from a "business as usual" mindset and leave behind the very convenient "mainstream" in which we have often worked. So we must constantly update our cardinal points and make sure that we quickly learn to understand the new phenomena in international politics. 

        bat365的20周年庆典恰逢国际关系的特殊时刻。在骄傲和满足的同时，我们也应该把它置于动荡起伏的世界政治中。迄今为止我们所学的每一样知识似乎正在受到质疑，因为在以往复杂的国际政治中帮我们辩明方向的标尺正在发生变化。我这么说不是要削弱我们的喜庆气氛，正相反，我们需要清楚地认识到我们所研究的问题在不停地随形势而变化，这个认识有利于我们跳出“惯常化思维”并超越那些所谓的“学术主流”。我们必须不断更新我们的知识，确保我们理解国际政治中的新现象。
The real new challenge we can clearly see in front of us is the challenge of responsibility. International relations, the keys to understanding them and the tools to manage them have increasingly become vital factors in our complex societies. We are being asked to move up to a new level of responsibility and our students too are sensing this new situation. They understand that their own role is becoming more interesting and more engaging in the eyes of their family and friends and in terms of their future. We must therefore make sure we are up to the challenge.  So, whether our international studies are based in Beijing or in Paris, in New York or in Rome, we must all follow a new, more complex and more interesting road map. This is a great, new responsibility.

        摆在我们面前真正的挑战是责任。理解和管理好国际关系、对于我们这个复杂的社会来说变得愈加重要。我们需要把我们的责任感提升到新的高度，我们的员工也正在感知这样的新态势。他们知道，对家人、朋友和自己的未来而言，自身的角色愈发有意义，也与现实密不可分。因此，我们必须确保做好准备以迎接新的挑战。所以，无论我们在哪里研究国际关系，无论是北京、巴黎、纽约还是罗马，我们正走向一个全新的且更加复杂有趣的发展进程。这正是我们在新时期所肩负的艰巨的责任。
