Application Eligibility

1. Applicants from the Mainland of the People's Republic of China (including those who received bachelor’ s degree overseas) must either have the recommendation eligibility to the School of International Studies (the SIS) (推荐免试) or pass the National Entrance Examination for Postgraduate Students in China (考研).
2. Applicants holding permanent identity cards from Macau, Hong Kong, or valid ID card from Taiwan must meet the application eligibility of PKU Graduate Student. Please visit https://admission.pku.edu.cn/zsxx/gatzs/index.htm

Admission

The joint committee will make pre-admission decisions after reviewing all the application documents and conducting interviews, and then submit the pre-admission list to the University.

Study Duration and Degree Conferral

Two-year full-time academic program. The first year is spent at the School of International Studies at Peking University, studying the international relations of China and the Asia Pacific region. The second year is spent at LSE, studying the theory and history of global international relations.

Upon successful completion of studies at both institutions, students will be conferred Master Degree of Law and Master Degree of Sciences by PKU and LSE respectively.

Credit Requirements and Progress

1. First-year credit and progress requirements: Students in this program must obtain all required credits and pass thesis defense at the end of the second semester before they can start the second-year study.

Course offering for 2021-2022 at Peking University is available in 2021 Handbook for your reference at SIS (via

Course offering for 2022-2023 will be available in May 2022 and is subject to change.

2. Second-year: At the end of the second academic year, students should complete all courses and the graduation thesis. Those who fail to meet the requirements must extend at least one semester. During study extension period, students shall pay fees in accordance with the relevant regulations of Peking University.

Tuition Fee and Funding

For 2022 entry, the tuition fee for international students at PKU is RMB 95,000 yuan and for Chinese students at PKU is RMB 8,000 yuan. The tuition fee for year 2 at LSE, please visit http://www.lse.ac.uk/study-at-lse/Graduate/Degree-programmes-2022/LSE-PKU-Double-MSc-Degree-in-International-Affairs. There are scholarships available at both institutions for students on the double degree program.

Non-PRC students can apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship for year one at PKU. The scholarship application should be directed to the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in the applicant’s home country. The application opens from November 2021 – April 2022 (varied for different countries). The CGS will provide the awardees with a monthly living stipend and assistance with accommodation arrangement. The PKU tuition fee will be partially covered by the CGS (students are expected to seek funding from other sources).

All Students will be eligible to apply for scholarship in year one at PKU. Since 2014, over 40 students were awarded RMB 2,000-10,000 respectively depending on their overall academic performance in year one at PKU.

Careers

Graduates from the program have been employed worldwide in a wide variety of international organizations, multinational corporations, public entities and the media sector. Many students have also advanced to doctoral research.
